The art of tattoo removal is almost as old as the art of tattooing. Many methods of tattoo removal have been used in the past, but they have proven to do more harm than good.  People have tried to bleach their skin, or scratch off the tattoo.  As you can imagine, these techniques do terrible damage. There is dermabrasion, where caustic materials such as acid or sandpaper are used on the skin. This results in scarring, and usually looks worse than the original tattoo.  Surgical excision (cutting the tattoo from the skin) is also an option. This is only slightly better than dermabrasion, but it is painful, difficult, and leaves scars.  Many tattoo removal creams have been advertised.  When applied to the skin, these creams fade the tattoo. While these creams may lighten your skin, they do not remove the unwanted tattoo ink. Lasers have been used for tattoo removal since the 1980s. The first laser available, the CO2 laser, works by destroying cells through vaporizing the water molecules in the skin. This technique is much like dermabrasion- it is very painful, causes significant scarring, and leaves ink behind.

Since there are so many methods of tattoo removal that are not effective, technology has had to catch up with the growing needs of people who desire effective, non-scarring treatments. Q-switching, a recently developed laser technology, delivers these results. MEDermis Laser Clinic is the only facility in Texas using the EO Q-Switched Nd: Yag Laser with PTP (RevLite).  This laser is effective against a broader range of colors than any other laser, and is extremely safe. The Q-switched laser works by delivering light at an incredibly high energy for a tiny fraction of a second onto the skin. This selectively breaks up large molecules, such as tattoo pigments, and causes very little damage to surrounding tissues.  There is virtually no scarring or change in natural skin pigment. MEDermis Laser Clinic uses the RevLite lasers for their safety, effectiveness, speed of operation, and proven track record. You will not believe the results! We feel that this laser is a miracle of modern technology, and we are proud to offer this much needed service to the public.

Laser tattoo removal is a process, meaning it does take multiple treatments to achieve complete removal of unwanted ink.  There will be fading with each treatment, which are spaced four to eight weeks apart.  If properly taken care of, there is very minimal risk of scarring.  MEDermis has safe, effective comfort techniques to minimize discomfort during and after the procedure.  All procedures are performed by a licensed laser specialist. A liscensed registered nurse is available for any and all questions regarding treatments and aftercare.   It is important to start about a year prior to your big event to ensure all unwanted ink is removed.  If you are too late already, we can work to fade your tattoo until your event, and offer temporary cover up of your unwanted ink.  Mask’D by MEDermis specializes in temporary cover up your unwanted ink for your special occasion.  If you would like additional information regarding the procedure or our pricing, please visit our website at www. MEDermisLaserClinic.com.  We hope to meet you soon!
